A break from routine is a great way to reconnect with identity.
Identity = life and we always reflect who we really are. Except when we don't.
Identity is deep. It is the life force or the river that we spring forth from. But when we are focused on a plane of reality. Like the earth plane for example, we temporarily can lose sight of that river and get lost in its little tributaries.
Routine is one of the places this happens. Get up, go to the bathroom, make the coffee, feed the cat, walk the dog, go to work, spill the coffee on your shirt, attend the meeting, answer the emails... on and on all the obligations of life go. These are surface things. They are part of your identity, yes, but think of them as the tip of the iceberg, with that unseen 99% buried beneath all that routine.
Sometimes you need to take a break and do something to disrupt your routine. It can be as small as taking a different route to work, having tea instead of coffee every once in a while, reading email before you spill the coffee instead of after 😂
Or it could be a weekend getaway or even a midweek getaway. For example you could rent an Airbnb in your own town on a Tuesday and Wednesday, still go to work and still do your things. Just going "home" to a different address can serve as the break in routine you need to reconnect. Bonus points if it's next to an actual river.
And sometimes, a break becomes a rift and you end up in a whole different life. The routine isn't just disrupted - it gets cast into the water to float downstream so the new can arrive at your dock. Sometimes it's your doing. Sometimes life forces it whether you say so or not.
Do you know what happens with all these breaks, whether small or life-changing? Your deeper identity bubbles up to the surface to remind you who you really are. And the more you let it bubble - the more you encourage that - the richer this life experience becomes.
