Identity vs Identify

"Identity" is what you are.

"Identify as" is how you view yourself and it's fluid.

As a very basic example, if you're reading this and you're on this planet your identity is currently expressed as "human." But what you identify as changes throughout your life. As a 5 year old you may have identified as a firefighter, cat or perhaps a superhero. As a teenager you may have identified as popular or outcast; as a scholar or class clown. You may have dreamed of the big league as you came up to bat in little league. And so many other things. Some of these stick with you and become integrated into your identity as you grow and others fall to the wayside as new things spark your interest and you identify more with them.

The point is that what you identify as is an expression of your identity but it's not the whole package. It's important to know that what you identify as can change, and by allowing it to change as you go through life you have a much fuller experience of your IDENTITY.

"Identify As" leads to deeper understanding of "Identity."

Just don't be fooled into believing that what you identify as is the sum total of what you really are.

PS we see you and you are VAST!
